The Flight of Discovery has researched activities that will be taking place across the country during the 2003-2006 bicentennial commemoration of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The National Signature Events will be conducted before, during and after the Flight of Discovery. The National Council of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial has selected American communities from Charlottesville, Virginia to Astoria, Oregon to participate in the nationwide celebration over a four year period. Communities were designated based on the Corps of Discovery's chronology, their historical relevance, tribal involvement, geographic location and sponsoring organization's capacity.

To the extent practicable, the FOD will contact and partner with the sponsoring organizations in an attempt to contribute our unique aerial and scientific perspective to bicentennial conversation. The National Signature Events include:
