Expedition 2004: Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail

Where are we going? Follow our route of flight.
You can check out any one of the 15 flight segments that the Flight of Discovery will be following in 2004 by going to the table below and clicking on the "Log & Map" box for that segment.

A Navigation Log for that segment will pop up along with the associated aeronautical chart(s). The Log has "waypoints" along the route segment that were used to establish the estimated times enroute (ETA) on a flight simulator.

Do you have a "waypoint" you'd like for us to check out during the expedition?
If you live along the route of flight, or even if you're "off the trail", you can help our pilot/scientists determine where they should conduct their investigations:
- Maybe your interest is in archaeology and you'd like to see some aerial photos of a old fort location
- Perhaps you know of a particularly interesting plant community that you would like documented
- Maybe your town or school has a special connection to the original Corps of Discovery

These are some of the many good reasons to identify your "waypoints" on our charts... then contact us. We'll try our best to include your waypoints on our expedition and let you know what we find!

Want to virtually fly along with our pilot/scientists? Here's what you do:
1. Print out a copy of the Navigation Log for the segment you want to fly.
2. Print out a copy of the maps provided or purchase them from the list of "Maps Required".
3. Get a copy of Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2002 (or newer) and load it on your computer.
4. Fly under the same parameters as shown in the header on each route segment. For example, we used a Cessna 172SP and usually flew at a speed of 100 KIAS. Fly down the middle of the river, keeping the water under your wings... no shortcuts!
